Meet Alliance

The cemetery was formerly founded in 1891 by a group of families escaping the Pogroms of Russia.  Settling here in rural southern New Jersey, they established Alliance Colony, the first successful Jewish agricultural colony in the United States.  Believing in the importance of “returning to the soil”, they farmed, organized, and built a Synagogue, a Burial Society (Chevra Kadisha), and created a community with the sacred responsibility of burying our own, in our own cemetery.  Our board members and staff have been committed to the vision of our founders for over one hundred and thirty years.
