Resolution to Establish Inclusive Section

       WHEREAS,  the Chevra Kadisha of Alliance was formed to provide burial of Jews in a cemetery owned and
       maintained by it and

       WHEREAS1 by virtue of marriage or life partnership1 Jews may wish to be buried next to or in proximity to
       non-Jews with whom they share a familial relationship and

       WHEREAS, the Chevra Kadisha of Alliance is sensitive to the commitments that were made with those who
       already have been buried under the assumption that only Jews1 as defined in our By-Laws1 would be buried
       with them and

       WHEREAS, a thousand year old custom should be respected and not lightly discarded and

       WHEREAS, the Chevra Kadisha of Alliance recognizes its obligation to accommodate the needs of all Jews
       who wish to be buried at Alliance Cemetery,

       NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Chevra Kadisha of Alliance does establish a separate section of the
       cemetery generally described on the drawing attached hereto as section 7 to serve such purpose upon the
       following terms and conditions –

  1. The section shall be separated by a path or road of not less than 9 meters (six feet three inches) from the rest of the cemetery.
  2. Non-Jewish spouses or life partners of Jews and non-Jewish children of Jews may be buried.
  3. Rabbis may attend and officiate at the funerals of non-Jewish spouses and children.
  4. A funeral ceremony may not be conducted by non-Jewish clergy and may not contain any non-Jewish ritual.
  5. A funeral ceremony may include Psalm 23, a eulogy and other worded prayers as determined by a local rabbi.
  6. If there are surviving Jewish family members, they may recite the Kaddish.
  7. Tombstones shall not have non-Jewish religious symbols.
  8. Non-Jewish religious symbols may not be placed on a grave.
  9. The rules of the Chevra Kadisha of Alliance shall apply and be enforced, however, for the purpose of burial in the inclusive section of the cemetery, a Jew shall be defined as a child born of a Jewish father or a Jewish mother or a convert to Judaism.
